Hobgood Baseball Chairman Letter - Little League Announcement

Dear Hobgood Families,

Another spring season is upon us, and we’re all looking forward to some great baseball over the next three months.  The weather during Opening Weekend was beautiful, even though the mornings and evenings were a little brisk.  Hopefully we’ll see more warm days than cold over the next couple of weeks.  As a sports guy, warmer weather and flowers blooming always means three things to me:  March Madness, The Masters, and Baseball!  Springtime ultimately means new beginnings, and new beginnings are the purpose of this email.

As an organization, we’ve seen the youth sports landscape change over the last decade.  Some of it has been very positive, and some of it has been negative.  I have always felt that our single biggest priority is to the kids of our community.  For that reason, we’ve done extensive research into the landscape of recreation baseball across the country…what’s working and what’s not working.  Suffice it to say that one organization keeps coming up as a leader in the baseball community.  That organization is Little League®.  I’m sure most, if not all of you, have watched the Little League® World Series in the past.  While that is an amazing event and shows the magnitude of Little League® across the world, we’ve come to realize the organization is so much more than that.  So, it is with great pleasure that I announce Hobgood Baseball’s partnership with Little League®, effective Spring 2019.

This decision did not come easily and is the culmination of years of research, discussion, and debates.  In the end, we feel strongly in this partnership and are excited about the opportunities it will bring our players, parents, coaches, and administrators.

Here are just a few reasons we are making this change:

  • More resources for our organization, our parents, and our coaches
  • The ability to be more flexible in our leagues, providing more options for players and families
  • An increased visibility to the baseball community, which should lead to more competition and competitive balance within our leagues
  • More opportunities for beginner/novice players
  • The ability to align a player’s league age with his/her grade
  • Increased safety for our players

We do understand that change can be difficult, and we want to make this transition as smooth as possible.  We are planning to host a Town Hall meeting on March 22nd at the Twin Creeks Softball Complex at 7 p.m.  This meeting is designed to go into more details about the transition and answer any questions people might have.  We encourage you to attend.  We have also created a page on our website that offers links to various Little League® websites and resources. Click here to view the webpage.

Thank you for being a part of the Hobgood family and trusting your children with us.  This is an exciting time for our park, and I look forward to what the future holds.

Best Regards,

Matt McKenna

Hobgood Board Chairman
